International Armaan ready for F2 season

Silverstone (UK), April 14: Two top–10 finishes in the recent pre–season test sessions have put Armaan Ebrahim in good heart as he mounts a fresh challenge on the Formula 2 championship that commences at the iconic circuit here this weekend with a double–header.

The 21–year old Armaan, sponsored by JK Tyre, Amaron, Cornerstone Sports & Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Trimex, is aiming to win the championship or at least to finish in the top three.

"We had two days of testing and I got back to speed straight away at Silverstone. We tried different setups in the second test at Snetterton. The car is basically the same as last year with a few changes to improve reliability.

"Overall, the pre–season tests were positive and I am really looking forward to the weekend because we ended quite well and have a plan on what we want to try during free practice on Friday. It is very important to get off to a good start.

"I always set high targets for myself and this year, it is to win as many races possible and be in the top four in every race which hopefully ends with the championship or at least the top three,"said Armaan who finished 10th overall in the 2010 championship, topped by a podium position in the season's last race in Valencia, Spain.

The 2011 championship winner receives a test drive with Williams Formula 1 team while the second and third place finishers will be eligible for a GP2 test.

Armaan will have to reckon with a very competitive grid this year with many drivers opting to repeat the championship.

"We have got a strong grid this year with a lot of guys repeating as well. But my aim is to keep working hard and to be in front every time I go out,"Armaan said.

Six of the eight venues for the 2011 championship are current Formula 1 circuits with four of them – Spa–Francorchamps (Belgium), Nurburgring (Germany), Barcelona (Spain) and Red Bull Ring (Austria) – added to Silverstone (UK) and Monza (Italy) this year.

"I am very comfortable with the car, but not all circuits are the same as last year. Four are new, but they are all legendary tracks and are part of the Formula 1 calendar,"Armaan said.

Looking ahead to this weekend's races, Armaan said a strong qualifying session would be critical to his chances.

"Qualifying is very important and that will be my main focus to get the best out of the new tyres and use the boost in Q2 to full affect,"he said.
